Practice With The Mind

There is a tendency in all of us to push, power, grunt and muscle through our workouts. When we do, we're missing out on half the work and half the benefit. There is valuable mental work to be done. When we let the mind play an active role in our Pilates practice; when we observe, are honest, and are patient, it allows us to recognize what is actually happening in the body -- because the nuances are important. Everything gets deeper and more beneficial when your mind is present. And it provides much needed therapy for the mind. So let yourself feel it and observe, even when it's challenging. Let yourself pull back when you need to. And allow yourself to work from the inside out; starting with the mind, the breath, and the very deepest layers of muscle. You will avoid injury and all the rest will come so naturally. Image source here.
